Vintage 2016: Update

After a week of heavy processing we're starting to get a feel for what might be some defining characteristics

of the 2016 vintage. On a higher level we're seeing some strange numbers with sugars and acids. Not bad, mind you, but certainly strange. Anyway, by and large 2016 looks to be another great year for Oregon wines. We're getting really intense flavors in the Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir and some really nice noble rot in the Riesling.

My time is being split a little more this year as I continue to focus on both our 13 acre vineyard and making wine. This week if you come out to see us in the mornings you'll catch me on the tractor helping run picking crews. If you come in the afternoon you'll see me in the winery processing Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Tempranillo with the rest of our production crew. So, with that I give you this weeks schedule for HARVEST WATCHERS:
  • Tuesday, 9/20: Processing Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir (12-5p)
  • Wednesday, 9/21: Picking Pinot Gris (Sunrise - 2p)
  • Thursday, 9/22: Picking Pinot Gris and processing Pinot Gris and Tempranillo (Sunrise - 5p)
  • Friday, 9/23: Picking and Processing Pinot Noir (Sunrise - 5p)
We'll also be doing inoculations, punch downs, and monitoring our fermentations this week at varying times. All in all this is a great week for people to come out and see how the wines are made. We hope you'll join us and share this article with your friends!
